This year, I'll be participating in the Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day event.
I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. The net proceeds will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
I've agreed to raise at least $2,200 in donations. My team goal is to raise over $5000.
According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, approximately 200,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and nearly 40,000 will die from the disease. Even scarier - 1 out of every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. That's insane! I need to do something bold about breast cancer NOW. Too many women have struggled and perished to this plague. It's got to stop!
I walk in honor and memory of three women: Carmen Lilley, Carin Carper, and Martha Alder. I can't really explain why I want to do this so bad other than the obvious reasons (for the cause and to honor these women, even though I didn't know two of them). I've seen the legacy these women have left and I've also seen the pain their loved ones have endured and they've all spoke of the pain these women endured. And I just can't imagine not doing something to try to stop this from ever happening again. The stats on any kind of cancer are daunting and perhaps it's high hopes to think that just one single person can make a difference, but you know what? I can and I am.
If you are interested in supporting me and help contribute to the cure of breast cancer, please visit my Breast Cancer 3-Day website. Again, 50 cents helps. There is no donation minimum or maximum. All donations are appreciated and will go recognized.
You are beautiful.
